Cee’s Black and White Challenge: Abandoned or Alone

The memorial to Begum Hazrat Mahal (1962), wife of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Oudh, who gave a tough fight to the British during the 1857 War of Independence stands alone in the Begum Hazrat Mahal  park (originally Qaiserbagh Victoria park), once a hub of political activity in north India.

The marble canopy, under which was once installed the statue of Queen Victoria, now has copper plaques with the exploits of the Begum inscribed on them.
