Prompt ~
copyright – Rochelle Wisoff-Fields
Music geeks have come up with an equation that can produce melody that hits the top percentiles with 95% confidence limit. They use the ‘Sure Hit Equation’ to produce most liked tunes.
Professor Aristarchus developed it using the Ultimate Equation, which was presented to Isaac Newton on an incredibly ancient Greek scroll.
Thales working on his PhD under Aristarchus, looking for a shortcut used the equation. He connected a synthesizer to the computer and proceeded with the SHE. An enrapturing melody erupted from the speakers.
A female form wrapped in white-linen materialized and short circuited the contraption with a look.
Words ~ 100
Thanks for the prompt Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. SHALOM.

I think this must be H. Ryder Haggard’s She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed!” What a wonderful mishmath of history. 🙂

I did not have that SHE in mind while writing this, but why not?
However, She was an Egyptian priestess who recognized the melody as that used for special ceremonies only – that is how I conceived it.
Thanks for the read, Janet 🙂
That’s what we do… Nice one.
Thank you for the read,Sandra 🙂
Ahh, so that’s where the saying “if looks could kill” comes from, lol. Great story 🙂
Could be. 🙂
Thank you.
Congratulations on the 700th post.

Dear Yarnspinner,
You juggled all the names and forms in this story perfectly. I loved the ending.
Aloha,

Thank you, Doug.

Dear YS,
Sounds like the musician’s fantasy coming to life. 😉 Nice one.
Salaam,
Rochelle
May be some time in future, the fantasy shall come true 😉
Thank you.
Thats interesting!
Thanks for the read.
Music, Woman ….okay Math….but ROCK ON!
Thanks for the read 🙂
I think that they have that equation applied in the Korean music factories… yes indeed.
🙂
Highly amusing.
Love it.
Thank you, friend 🙂
Clever take on the state of music right now. I wish SHE would come along and end corporate music right now!
I too.
Thank you 🙂
This was very clever and fun to read. I love the final sentence; clinches it perfectly and drives it home. Nice job!
Glad you liked it.
Thank you 🙂
What an unusual take on the prompt. And you left it wide open to our imagination. What I thought was interesting was when I read Janet’s interpretation — and then read your own that you explained in the comment. I didn’t see what either one of you saw. I thought the female figure was supposed to be the Muse of Music who was intent on putting a stop to anyone being able to artificially determine what music was accepted by people and given a place in the world’s history. Amazing what different perspectives can do, isn’t it?
Thank you for the read and the comment. This has added to the depth of this short story.
This is the pleasure of the flash. Each reader interprets it differently.
🙂
terrific. I loved the twist in the tale
Thank you. 🙂
