Great expectations.

Celebrate the weekend from Friday night,
And wherever I go I shall go by flight.

The Hindi–jingle epitomized the dreams of the common people. Millions have realized their dream. Unfortunately it was presumptuous conjecture of the naive.

The flights are rarely in-time. The flier is an unwelcome intrusion with no choice of aisle or window seat. The flight crew is often a gauche fumbling novice or an old disgruntled attendant with painful bunions inside the shiny shoes.

I woke up as the bumpy flight finally touched the tarmac with a jolt that seared my spine.

  1. Dear Yarnspinner, Only once have I been irritated with a flight attendant and I think it was because she was snooty to the people in front of me. I never saw her on that flight again – I like to think it was her supervisor scowling at her from the open door that did it. Anyway – good story! Nan 🙂

  2. well, i think i ran into that same “gauche fumbling novice” recently on a flight…she didn’t smile once and made the overhead announcements with such rapid speed, it was a good thing no one was paying attention or we didn’t need to use the emergency landing instructions. airline tickets are so high that service should be better than average. your story…written so realistically well. 🙂

  3. Lovely jingle, but your description of the flight, feelings of fliers, the staff, was delightful – you summed up the possibilities modern air travel so well. Very good.

I love arguments
