The boat-man reached the shores of the living-world and found nobody waiting to go across. This was the first time in his life that he had to wait for passengers.
He had wished for such a situation many times. He was never free of the pain in his back and arms. In spite of his great weariness and aching body he was restless to get back. Unfortunately he was not allowed to go back without any passengers.
A great boom broke his reverie and commanded, ‘come back, son; the humans have fled to the land of eternal life’.
