The broken symmetry

Prompt  –

Copyright – Marie Gail Stratford

The Exxon sign was reflected in the mirror across his bed. It distracted him.

It was especially irritating today as he needed to concentrate on the large rock. He had just saved his index-finger from the drill. The laser units had forced him to set up as a free-lancer. His skills and the demand for hand-cut gems ensured his survival. It required working around the God particle of crystal so as not to disturb the super-symmetry.

The large rock he was cleaving needed extreme concentration but a glare from the Xs in the Exxon made him blink and the rock splintered.
