Flowery derision

Prompt –

© 2015, Barbara W. Beacham

Finish the story begins with: “Are you laughing at me?

“Are you laughing at me?” The orchids displayed at the florist asked the roses and other nearby flowers. They also noticed the sneers and the furtive glances.
While most of the flowers avoided the question a pink rose said yes and giggled. Each of its petals rippled with mirth.
“What makes you laugh?” The lovely orchid asked not bothering to hide its exasperation.
“I was imagining  you without the pout-lip and along with your tubers – the ones that you keep hidden below the ground …. the part of you that earned you the name orchid.”
“What is there to laugh about my tubers?”
“Oh, they are so funny ….. just like a dog’s balls”, and the rose chuckled gleefully.
Many of the flowers sniggered and some turned their faces at such shocking language.

    • I am sure that the roses are neither snotty nor snobbish …. but the human mind projects its prejudices ….. I used the writer’s license here.

      Thanks for the interest.
