The towers of Meenakshi temple in Madurai, India  house a large number of intricately  carved stucco images of various deities, mythical animals and monsters in vibrant colors.

  1. This is just marvelous beyond paltry words, YS. I’ve never seen the Meenakshi temple, that I can recall, and I’m pretty sure I’d remember something so lovely, extraordinary, remarkable. The amount of time the crafter(s) must have spent on this. It’s really a work of art and deserving of one of the world’s wonder designations, to my mind. Thank you so much for sharing the photos! I feel like I shall have to research this temple further. NatGeo had a recent issue (April 2015) on Trajan’s column, which has lost its colour over the years, and I’m thinking, wow, this temple would make an excellent cover photograph (and story).

    • I am sure you would love it. It is a very live temple and well maintained sprawling over a huge area in Madurai near Chennai, India. The pic shows just one of the entrances …….. there are 4 one in each direction. Plan a trip to India and see it for real.

      Thank you.

I love arguments
