Fifty thousand dollars is lot of money for a farmer with 2 acres of land in a village situated in the middle of nowhere – especially when it is converted in to local-currency. The lure of a city life with cars, LCD-TVs, and other gadgets is difficult to resist. Land acquisition for development is a God sent opportunity.

Up and down the express way
with a bottle of Chivas regal;
that’s the way the money goes,
pop goes the weasel

Farmers are agitating for additional compensation of their land acquired by the government at prices much lower than the market rate.

  1. It irks me every time I drive past a large plot of farm land (especially fertile river-bottom land) that has been converted into a gated community. What a waste of God’s green earth.

  2. It the same everywhere. A building is stuck in wherever it’s possible. Now there’s a problem. Here, I’m told by a friend, she can’t sell her flat for what it’s worth on the market because the national bank has put a ceiling on prices. Also, the problem of too many buildings brings up the problem of the need for more water and gas. I often wonder just where that’s coming from, especially the water in a drought year. It’s a complicated problem . Well done, Yarnspinnerr. —- Suzanne
