The Johansson clan searched the distant land of the famed torch with disappointment. As the land loomed larger they could make out the shape of the lady at the end of a long line of masts. Its illumination was more like a glowworm.
On landing they received a cold welcome and those who showed warmth generally left them poorer.
30 years later in 1920 they came back to receive some friends from the old country. Their friend’s were not disappointed as the Lady glowed like a beacon and the Johansson’s helped them find jobs, home and overcome barriers of language.
