Prompt ….

Deep finally cured himself of the itchy, black spots on his body that had bothered him for many years. Like others he too benefited by moving away from the pond village.
The slow but regular emigration has left less than a dozen residents here. Those who decide to stay are mostly old and disabled. They live with the glum acceptance that their village will die with them. Only the willow will remain to weep for them.
The same desolate picture is repeated in scores of villages across the globe where the surface and ground water has been poisoned by arsenic.

Thanks for the prompt Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. SHALOM.
Most of us take clean water for granted. It is sad to know that for many clean water is a luxury. 😦
Thanks for the read and appreciation.
Sadly, maybe an allegory for the entire planet’s future.
Presses a cry from deep within me of “Please do something.”
Nicely written.
Randy
Appreciate your message. Thank you.
What an awful situation. You know what this makes me think of, random thought — there is a Meryl Streep movie I think ‘Out of Africa,” and she is taking arsenic to cure her of an STD.
How could that ever work, when it poisons whatever and kills rats?
Arsenic as therapeutic medicine has long been discontinued in modern medicine.
Thanks for the interest.
Hah yes I know it has. To think it used to be, makes we shake my head. But there are many old medical practices which weren’t very good. Have a lovely rest of the week.
So true. Thanks.
Well done!
Thank you.
Pretty bleak, but somehow awfully close to the truth.
Some how the prompt reminded me of the pond culture in Bengal and …..
Thank you.
Scary true situation is many parts of the world
Yes, so it seems. Thank you.
I worry about clean water too. In my part of America, they’ve done a lot of fracking in the past few years. Who knows what’s in that mixture they use to bust up the shale? Not only is it polluting the water, it’s causing earthquakes too.
There are reports that fracking does cause pollution of ground water. In case you are interested this link may be of help. Thanks for the interest.

The only thing I don’t get about this article is how they link fracking to the Obama administration. The Bush/Cheney team (both heavily beneficiaries of money from fossil fuels) were the big proponents of fracking and did everything in their power to help that industry.
The link is mentioned in the third or fourth para about the insistence of officials that there was no evidence that fracking has fouled drinking water.
The story is same globally – short term economic vision and just lip service to basic issues. 🙂
Sad but unfortunately true occurrence in so many places in the world, Yarnspinnerr. Good writing. —- Suzanne
You said it.
Thank you.
That’s the sad truth in so many places. Never take anything for granted. Grippingly good story.
Thank you.
I love it, YS! Very powerful story and message. I wish all the world’s major leaders would be forced to read this and voice that they understand what it’s saying, actually!
I am happy you took this seriously. Thank you for the encouragement.
I did; and it’s because you did a good job with it, too. Sometimes you’re cheeky, and sometimes you’re serious. I enjoy both aspects of your writing!
Thank you 🙂
