Al Gore and RK Pachauri representing the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) received the Nobel for Peace in 2007. Pachauri warned that rising global temperatures will unleash a series of complications that will have a deep impact for India’s coastal cities.
I doubt if the duo gave a thought to the economic warming that is taking over the globe.

Shan returning home in Cochin did not know about the pending cyclone or the fact that fishermen were hurrying back watching the sky after the storm-advisory. He just focused on maneuvering through the traffic and reach home before the 8-pm news.
However, the storm awaited him. The PM replaced the higher-currency with new one (with immediate effect) and it was just not available. Unfortunately, Shan had just two hundred rupees in acceptable currency and the Indian market is highly cash oriented.
The sky and the sea normalized in few days but the economical storm left Shan adrift for years to come.

The difference of course is that unlike global warming, which is caused by simple metereological laws, economic crises are not the result of natural laws, but of social behaviour manifesting as if it were natural law
I believe that economic crises are caused by ‘greed’ and greed is essentially natural to the human behavior. It is, therefore, mentioned in some form in all mythologies.

Yes, the after effects of this storm will be with us all for some time to come. I usually try to get Rs 100 and my employee had to go to three different banks where she and I have accounts to try and get sufficient change to last through the week as we can only go once a week. It can be distressing and is more so for the poor who wait in long lines to find an ATM empty when they finally reach it. I hope this is behind us soon. Good writing, Yarnspinnerr. —- Suzanne
