Idea and ideal

Prompt  ….

PHOTO PROMPT © Liz Young
The sales VP of a large pharmaceutical company reported a decline in sales to the company board.
‘Please specify the deficiency areas.’ The chairman asked.
Diabetes and high blood-pressure drugs, sir.
Thank Avicenna. This is easily solved.
Who is he?
He was a Persian polymath and diagnosed diseases by abnormal pulse rates. I shall call the chiefs of various related agencies and get them to lower the normal values for blood-sugar and blood-pressure in their diagnostic guidelines.
And the doctors shall not object?
They are caged and gagged.
A million more consuming our drugs regularly will do wonders for us, Sir.
Words ~ 101

Thanks for the prompt Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. SHALOM.

  1. A terrible issue for us to face since pharmaceuticals will be the ones to dictate our medications more than doctors in the future, I think. I see it as a big money operation rather than a care-for-people thing. Eye opening story about the future of medicine. Well written …
    Isadora 😎

  2. I believe the same thing happened with the officially sanctioned recommended weight. 😊it is true that people who believe they are sick will pay more for medication than those who do not.

    • There are no absolute values in biology and medicine. The mathematical norms are open to interpretation and fudging as we have not reached the level where all biological processes can be converted in to a mathematical equation …… hence the ideal can be exploited.
Thanks a lot for the read and the interest. I truly appreciate.

  3. My husband used to work as a lawyer. One of his cases was a class action against a pharmaceutical company about people who’d died while taking a certain drug. It was a very nasty case involving lots of bad boys. Pharmaceutical companies can offer doctors many incentives to use certain drugs. It’s a minefield out there. I think it’s often a case of the doctors being caged and gagged by the perks they can’t resist (meals, holidays, etc). Your story says it all.

  4. A wonderful work of fiction…. or is it? Scary thoughts with big business making so much from people’s illnesses and misery.

    • Realistic fiction is a genre consisting of stories that could have actually occurred to people or animals in a believable setting. These stories resemble real life, and fictional characters within these stories react similarly to real people. Stories that are classified as realistic fiction have plots that highlight social or personal events or issues that mirror contemporary life, such as falling in love, marriage, finding a job, divorce, alcoholism, etc. They depict our world and our society.

Indeed it is a scary thought …… if not a possibility. Thanks a lot for the read and your opinion.
