34 musicians of a band (Belgium, 1895) were poisoned (3 died) by eating ham at an inn. Now we know that the poison was a protein produced by a bacillus.

Less than a century later, Jean Carruthers, a Canadian ophthalmologist, treated a woman (1987) suffering from a rare and debilitating eye ailment with extremely small doses of same. The woman’s eye condition improved and the wrinkles between her brows seemed to disappear. Jean’s husband, a dermatologist found the story intriguing and explored how it could be used to remove wrinkles.

It was over pillow talk that Botox was discovered.

On September 11, 2013, the FDA approved  Botox  for cosmetic use to improve the appearance of crow’s feet. The FDA originally approved Botox in 2002 to minimize the appearance of frown lines.
