A retro ride

Prompt  ….

PHOTO PROMPT © J Hardy Carroll
The amusement park had installed a new ride and claimed it to be fastest. Only invited adult couples were allowed the first ride. Leaders, government-officials, CEOs and other elites came for the ride.
After much fanfare, all were seated according to their seniority and protocol. Finally the ancient mayor (too old to be on the ride) pushed the start button. The carriages started rotating. Slowly it picked up speed  –  till the crowd could just hear the whizz and were unable to visualize individuals or the cabins.
Ultimately it stopped and a crowd of teenagers got off.

A round centrifuge would slow down time as it gets faster – thus increasing the Gravity in that location. A space-time like blanket would cover something that has a high mass in comparison to other areas as it possesses more gravity in comparison as well. The higher gravity “weighs down” the blanket. In these weighed down areas time moves at a slower rate than that of a spot with less gravity/mass. A good example is if you’re near a black hole, which has a lot of mass and thus gravity, your perception of a few minutes or hours there could be, in comparison, years on Earth. There may be academic errors in this …..  but it provided the theme for this tale.

Drive and live

Prompt  ….

This world is like puffed-corn being devoured by time. Some are in its mouth; others on its platter.

Time flows slower at higher speed and faster at a higher elevation. Mr Kaal developed a park where you could drive around for half an hour and come out in 28.7 minutes – thereby defy death by a minute. Further, if you could afford to drive around forever you may also postpone your death for eternity (if your body clock also falls prey to the time warp).

Mr Kaal outsourced the design of his business-crest and chose the slanted hour-glass as his emblem.

PS – Kaal in hindi means time as well as death.

Ligo Haibun Challenge ~ Mind Games !

Prompt ~ Torture

The mind shuts off when physical pain becomes unendurable but it has no such capacity when its wanderings become a threat for the body. Our minds are our worst torturers.

Meditation is so simple that we misunderstand it because our minds fail to realize the illusory nature of time. Unfortunately, the mind dictates the heart and the torture begins. Luckily, meditation is our inherent nature.  Just walk on the sand; look out of your window and see those marvelous hills (~ divert/ occupy the mind) and you find solace.

A little solitude and one is on his way to ‘samadhi’ (~ eternal peace). Solitude helps when one is not frightened to be alone. The heart knows that the stillness was there in the beginning; is now; and will always be there.

Self-torture is essentially a conflict of heart and mind. Let the heart decide as it answers in a simple – Yes and No.

Ligo Haibun Challenge ~ Now !

Prompt ~

The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough. Rabindranath Tagore

“I leave no trace of wings in the air,

but I am glad I have had my flight “    R. Tagore (Gurudev)

Gurudev, a Nobel laureate was a champion of the Bengal Renaissance in India. His contribution included paintings, sketches and doodles, besides hundreds of texts, and nearly two thousand songs. His legacy abides at Visva-Bharati University, which he found at Shanti Niketan near Calcutta.

A timeless universe is an attractive thought. It would bring about a change of attitude among the commoners and help us to jump off the spiral roller-coaster of time based achievements. Such a model may also explain many of the paradoxes that modern physics faces in understanding the true nature of universe that may finally bridge the chasm between objective science and subjective facts mentioned in different scriptures.

The wise one, who follows the predetermined course, is a happy face amid the cosmic mish- mash and learns to enjoy the uniquely satisfying as well as frustrating tiny “nows.”

Trifecta: Week Eighty Five ~ I and Time

Prompt ~ Fly

One day reminiscing about the things gone by,  I asked the old man with long white beard, who everybody knows as Time – “Why fly when you can stroll?”

The old man gave me a pitying look and smiled sarcastically.

“Hey, act your age and slow down!” I persisted.

This time he metamorphosed in to a young kid on a 100 meter dash.

I chased him but soon I realized he was chasing me.

I stopped and turned back to let him catch up, but he took ages to reach me.

I smiled.  “The age finally overtook you!”

“Yes, I let it!” He said.

“Then where is your relativity?” I teased him.

“I let it amalgamate in to space for the time being – so that you may enjoy an occasional stroll.”

He vanished before I could think of an appropriate retort (if there is one?).
