At first, it looked like an ordinary marble, but it was far from it.
However boys will be boys and some of them enjoy  torturing insects. Riz poked an anthill and a little greenish-black creature crawled out. His countenance lighted up this was much more fun. Cutting off its head and many feet and mounting it would be such fun. It would also please his nature-science teacher.
Riz placed his handkerchief on the insect and lifted it gingerly. He let it wriggle for some time and then felt the writhing slow. After some time Riz took out the handkerchief, raised a little corner and peered in  –  a shining bead blinked at him.
Riz apprehensively entered his home, expecting to find his parents brawling and a glass of water dinner. Surprisingly, he found his mother laying the table and his father helping her.
The dzi bead glowed brighter in the folds of the handkerchief.

  1. Interesting how the ant turns into the bead, and then changes his family. Lucky Riz. Maybe without this he would have grown up to being a criminal. Nice story!

  2. This was a good story based on the special dzi beads. Thanks, Yarnspinnerr for the interesting link. I’ve learned something by reading the information. Well written. 🙂 — Suzanne
